Half Apollo Czech Glass Spike Earrings

Description

Edgy and bold, these earrings feature jet (black) Czech glass spike beads coated with metallic Apollo gold on one side that are wire wrapped with fire polished glass bead accents. These lightweight earrings dangle from stainless steel ear wires and measure 2-1/2″ total length.

The process artists in Czechia (formerly the Czech Republic) use to to make these glass beads is fascinating. First, jet (black) glass is pressed into a textured dagger shape. Then the bead is etched to a matte finish. Finally, a metallic coating is applied either to one side of each bead — like amber gold or Apollo (also called capri gold) — or to the entire bead — like bronze, Picasso, hematite, or silver.
