Half Apollo Czech Glass Spike Necklace

Description

Edgy and bold, this necklace features eleven jet (black) Czech glass spike beads coated with metallic Apollo gold on one side. Coordinating fire polished glass beads complete the look. Necklace measures 18″ with a 2″ extender chain.

The process artists in Czechia (formerly the Czech Republic) use to to make these glass beads is fascinating. First, jet (black) glass is pressed into a textured dagger shape. Then the bead is etched to a matte finish. Finally, a metallic coating is applied either to one side of each bead — like amber gold or Apollo (also called capri gold) — or to the entire bead — like bronze, Picasso, hematite, or silver.
