Silver Czech Glass Spike Necklace

Description

Edgy and bold, this necklace features eleven jet (black) Czech glass spike beads with a metallic silver coating. Coordinating fire polished glass beads complete the look. Necklace measures 18″ with a 2″ extender chain.

The process artists in Czechia (formerly the Czech Republic) use to to make these glass beads is fascinating. First, jet (black) glass is pressed into a textured dagger shape. Then the bead is etched to a matte finish. Finally, a metallic coating is applied either to one side of each bead — like amber gold or Apollo (also called capri gold) — or to the entire bead — like bronze, Picasso, hematite, or silver.
